who needs football??

so i guess last night was the championship of college football. we had no reason to watch it at our house....even if ohio state is a big ten team. there was way too much excitement at our house; football could not compete!!!

it was monday, the last day before heading back to school. the kids and i spent the day playing with some friends. got home and i tried to get some work done. mapboy had lost most of his privlidges for the day so this was proving to be a bit difficult. hubby arrived home and after a brief confrontration from mapboy he was sent to his room without supper! i know, harsh, but totally needed last night. i thought to myself...this could be a long night!!!!

after supper we got the dishes done and i headed off to the church meeting. always exciting!! pastor's daughter was leaving at 3:00 am this morning to fly to egypt so he was in a hurry to get through the meeting, get home to spend time with her, and of course to get some sleep before waking up in the middle of the night. i was home again by 8:30!!!

all was quiet. hubby and i sat and talked while music played. it was wonderful, peaceful, and so enjoyable. oscar, our dog, was sitting at his feet. apparently, hubby had let oscar out to potty. he didn't seem interested in coming back in. for our dog, wet muddy grass is a not a favorite so this seemed unusual. hubby looked out to see him tossing something around outside!! sure enough our little weiner dog had done his job and caught himself a mole!!!!!! a LARGE MOLE!!! so hubby had to wrestle the dog away from it and toss the mole. fun times!!!! i loved the story and praised the dog while hubby looked at me with frustration!!

as the storm came in mapboy woke up. it didn't help that every fire/ems truck our city owns was honking and blaring it's sirens outside our house. after about 15-20 minutes i got him calmed down. we tried to watch the weather, but it was a football game! hmm....well let's just go to bed!!

so i head upstairs, find mapboy asleep in our bed. i carry him back to his room and when i do i hear our basement door slam shut! odd.....we are in a flood watch, and since we have a cellar basement we sometimes get some water in there. figuring hubby is just checking the water level i crawl into bed. when he finally comes up he announces that he has found a bat in the basement. not just a bat, but a VERY LARGE BAT!!!! this begins a long discussion of how to keep it in the basement. are there any holes in the floor that one could squeeze through? will it get into our duct work? is it safe to cover the return air vents? how do we get rid of it? do we have animal control in our county?? after much discussion we decided to leave all the lights on downstairs, the stairway light, and the bathroom light at the top of the stairs. that should keep him down in the basement. we hope!!!

so of course the dog wants up in the middle of the night, mapboy wakes up with the next round of storms, and hubby is freaked about the bat in the basement. needless to say, it was not a calm, quiet, restful night around here. with the recent scare of rabid bats i'm a little freaked out myself! oh, who am i kidding? bats totally freak me out rabies or not!!! so the lights will all stay on for the day until we figure out how to get rid of it!! any ideas??!?!??? oh..and who won the game???

oh my! sounds like you'll need a nap today! chris has been gone since sunday, so i was in charge of getting the kids up and ready for school today and it went so smoothly!! but i just got a call that the school is closing at noon due to the flooding! so, they'll be home right after lunch. they'll be so excited to only have a half day!!

I would suggest a tennis racquet to eliminate the bat. Protected species or not, and all the benefits of bats notwithstanding, you have to draw the line somewhere. I think this is the point where you remind Kurt that he is the one in the house with opposable thumbs and he ought to put them to work...

me, on politics

i despise politics. i never liked it, but i married a man fascinated with it. a man who wanted to be part of it all...and was, briefly. boy were our eyes opened... anyways...it seems like this election has several hot button topics. one of which is universal healthcare. my cousin started a blog called politics for mom and there have been several heated debates going on. i was reading several comments on healthcare. and frankly i was bothered! now, i don't know that a strict universal healthcare is the answer, but i do know that we have now doesn't work for the average person. here is our story.... hubby worked in a small business - 3 employees at the most that i can remember. we paid 1/2 our insurance..until it came to the point where our half each month was twice what we would pay if we were on our own. but for the owner it saved him money. so he agreed to cover ours in full. we were very grateful. i also know at times, that because of the healthcare cost, it was a struggle f...

from the kitchen...

chicken bruschetta bake if you know me, you know my great distaste of tomatoes. i usually pick the tomato chunks out of my sgetti sauce. yes i just called it sgetti!! i eat all the chunks of my salsa, except the tomatoes. but over the past few years i've gotten a bit brave and will eat small pieces of tomatoes in fresh salsa and in this dish as well. i hadn't fixed this in probably over a year. but a few weeks ago i pulled out my recipe file to find some old favorites. i found this and realized i had everything in the pantry. that's a deal!!!!! i did have to switch out the diced tomatoes because my can was crushed instead. i prefer the diced but this worked just as well. the kids loved the chicken, but not so much the topping. this was great as leftovers, too. i ate it for lunch the following two days. 1 can. (12.5oz) diced tomatoes, undrained 1 pkg. stove top stuffing mix for chicken (i use aldi brand) 1/2 cup water 2 cloves garlic, minced 1.5 pounds skinless...

life with izzie b

so i'm out of town right now and this time with my friend izzie b (names have been changed to protect the people we know). we are actually at a conference that is rocking my world, but we are two crazy girls alone in a big city. anyways.....she is a weird person. she likes car rides and she likes to watch the sunrise while riding in the car so we started our trip at 5:30 AM!!! 5:30 AM friends...ugh. but we had a non-eventful trip and honestly it wasn't so bad. i'm weird so i had packed us ham and cheese sandwichs. we stopped several times to get out and walk. we stopped for gas somewhere a bit redneck and they sold mostly fireworks. lots and lots of fireworks. that place also had some kind of super duper blue light hand dryer. it was honestly a bit freaky. then we checked in and found we had a smoking room. it was quite smoky and so we asked for a change. no luck, but the nice lady offered to bring up an odor remover machine while we were at the conference. um....
