so this has been one crazy week around here. i've been on the go all week long. last night i went to bed with a lot on my mind. but one thing not on my mind was an earthquake!! yes folks...at 5:37 this morning i woke up for some reason. then i realized my bed was shaking and the lanterns on the dresser were rattling. i looked at the clock and assumed a train was on it's way. we live right next to the tracks and on occasion there is a train around this time of morning.
i laid there for a while. the dog moaned a little and mapboy started coughing and stirring in his bed. i prayed the train would be quick and not fully wake him b/c once he is awake he is awake and 5:37 is too early for that guy! everything continued to shake. by now i'm thinking i don't really hear a train at all. shouldn't i hear it by now? and wait a minute - our bed sways, not shakes with a train. and then there was the issue of the lanterns. they don't ever rattle. hmm...well it all stopped and the dog crawled back under the covers and i went back to sleep.
hubby had gone for coffee early this morning and when he came home he asked if i felt the earthquake! boy - i would never have guessed what i was feeling was an earthquake. i told him i felt the bed/room shake early this morning and was shocked when he said the time. i clearly remembered looking at the clock!!
in the late 80's i remember having an earthquake drill at school. i'm guessing there was a "threat" of one. we only did it once and i have never dreamed of being in one. my mom once almost refused to go to california with us for fear of having an earthquake that would break off the part we were in. she did not want to be floating around the ocean with no way back home.
so - as a perfect end to my crazy week i got to feel the earth shake!! sitting in the doc's office later i was talking with a friend about it. she said it was a great reminder to her of us being just a little speck on this great earth. and also - how fitting to experience an earth quake around earth week!! hmm....ironic huh?
