hubby had been gone for about 4 days on a backpacking trip. i had never been alone with my kids this long! i know most of you out there can't believe it, but he had only ever been gone for a 2 night trip. i'm blessed....anyways this is not at all related, well not really...
so we had actually had a great time home alone. we played, visited friends, and hung out with family. but yesterday i had to run some errands and get ready for real cooking again. i also needed to pick up some things at wal-mart!! i despise walmart and dread going there until i absolutely have to, but hubby was coming home and needed his protein bars. i can only find the kind he likes at wal-mart, so i load up the kids and promise dinner out if they will hang in there while we are out and about.
all is going well. i decide to take a walk through the women's clothing section and see what might be on clearance. as we are in the section, princess asks to get out of the cart so i agree and put her down. all of a sudden she declares she needs to go potty. this girl goes potty in every store or restaurant atleast 3 times!! from the time we trained her she felt the need to check each one out several times. so i ask if she can wait until we check out and she says no. great!! now i have to go all the way to the back corner of the store to find the bathroom. talk about frustrating!! she hops on the end of the cart and mapboy skips along behind. she keeps reminding me she has to go and i keep telling her i'm getting there as fast as i can. i urge mapboy to move a little faster and start walking a bit faster. i have to turn a corner and kind of slip on something. hmm..wal-mart really ought to clean their floors. at the next corner i slip again. now, i know i'm moving at a pretty fast pace, but surely they clean their floors better than this.
princess is giggling like crazy on the cart and mapboy is just bouncing along behind telling everyone we are running for the bathroom. FINALLY!! we are there...would you believe they are having a staff meeting right outside the bathroom? so i grab my purse, push the cart to the side and drag princess in by the hand...mapboy has to follow me in because what do you with him? i'm not going to let him stand alone in wal-mart. i've watched way too many missing children reports for that. so he rushes in after me. i do notice the staff all kind of giggling, but since most are teens they don't yet get the concept of "mom, i have to go to the bathroom and i have to go now!"
we rush intothe stall and princess hops on the potty. i don't hear a thing! she quickly announces she is done and needs wiped.
me: um, princess, did you already go potty?
it is then, and only then, that i notice her underwear are completely soaked! i also notice her shoes are wet!!!
now, here i am in wal-mart with soaked underwear and shoes. quite the dilema. i'm now also realizing that when i was slipping i was probably slipping on, uh huh, you guessed it - a nice trail all through the store!! i'm also realizing that those teens knew what was happening and i didn't.
so,after i collect myself, the undies went in the trash, i wiped the shoe as best i could and headed back out with my head held high. i also gave princess quick instructions to NOT lift her dress. we proceeded to the underwear aisle where she picked out pretty dora underwear and then the shoe aisle where she picked out new pink crocs!
we made it to the checkout and took our purchases to the car where we tried them all on!! and yes, there was quite a trail through the store. one of the teens must have called it in, b/c a kind man was mopping where i had blazed!!
so with all okay, we headed out for supper. atleast this time i had spare undies in the car:)
