today....

it's my birthday!!! my dear friend has been asking me all week what i wanted to do and to be honest i couldn't come up with anything! our sleepy little town doesn't offer too much in the way of birthday fun. i really think it has something to do with just getting older! it used to be you couldn't wait for that big day...now it seems like it sneaks up on you. something about having responsibilites i guess:)

i thought i'd share some of my favorite birthday memories with you all. i know this sounds a little um....self-indulgent, but hey..it is my birthday!!

the first one i really remember was a strawberry shortcake party! my grandparents were there along with 3 friends! it was a rectangle cake with those hard candy things that were all strawbery shortcake! loved it!!

there was my mcdonalds party complete with the talking tree and coffee stirrers dropped in the cup game! i think there were a lot of people there - even one i did not want to invite, but my mom made me anyway!

then there was the first slumber party in 2nd grade!! what a disaster!!! most of the girls were in love with my brother so they fought over which one would marry him - GROSS!! then of course there was the typical girl fights and i think i spent most of the night crying!!

for my 13th i got my ears pierced!! my parents took me and a couple of friends to the mall for that experience...my sister was quite mad since she had to wait until 16! there are definite perks to being the baby.

for my 16th i got a car!! now that was thrilling...it had to stay parked for a month but it was a wonderful old cutlass cierra...that car and i had some great times!!!!! i drove it until my sophmore year in college!!! my parents had a party for me in indianapolis with all of my family. i got an opal ring and my 2 best friends were with me. we stayed at the fashion mall and had a great time shopping and being girls!!

on my 22nd birthday my 2 college friends kidnapped me at like 6 in the morning.....they were brave souls because I HATE MORNINGS!!! (they knew that too!)and took me to denny's for breakfast!! that was a good time!!!

my 30th birthday was what i thought was the end of my life!! i know...silly, but i had only ever made plans to age 30! not sure why, just never dreamed beyond and since i had accomplished all my goals i felt a little like life was over:) but hubby was good and sent the kids away for the weekend and then planned a day in michigan with our dear friends! we had coffee, saw the beach, but decided january was not the time to walk it, and ate dinner at a favorite restaurant. she made a great cake and we had a wonderful time! that was the year of the last great flood so i was greatly entertained by the number of people who drove into the flooded viaduct and had to rescued!

so this year....another nice day and another year older!!! 33!! wowzers....that always sounded old and well, now, it doesn't!

to the many of you that read this and know me.....thank you for playing such a huge role in my life! God has used you in many ways to bless me, speak to me, and challenge me!

I can't believe you left out your 24th birthday! You moved into your new house, was treated to roses and a very expensive dinner, and then a romantic night at a bed and breakfast........all complete surprises!

me, on politics

i despise politics. i never liked it, but i married a man fascinated with it. a man who wanted to be part of it all...and was, briefly. boy were our eyes opened... anyways...it seems like this election has several hot button topics. one of which is universal healthcare. my cousin started a blog called politics for mom and there have been several heated debates going on. i was reading several comments on healthcare. and frankly i was bothered! now, i don't know that a strict universal healthcare is the answer, but i do know that we have now doesn't work for the average person. here is our story.... hubby worked in a small business - 3 employees at the most that i can remember. we paid 1/2 our insurance..until it came to the point where our half each month was twice what we would pay if we were on our own. but for the owner it saved him money. so he agreed to cover ours in full. we were very grateful. i also know at times, that because of the healthcare cost, it was a struggle f...

from the kitchen...

chicken bruschetta bake if you know me, you know my great distaste of tomatoes. i usually pick the tomato chunks out of my sgetti sauce. yes i just called it sgetti!! i eat all the chunks of my salsa, except the tomatoes. but over the past few years i've gotten a bit brave and will eat small pieces of tomatoes in fresh salsa and in this dish as well. i hadn't fixed this in probably over a year. but a few weeks ago i pulled out my recipe file to find some old favorites. i found this and realized i had everything in the pantry. that's a deal!!!!! i did have to switch out the diced tomatoes because my can was crushed instead. i prefer the diced but this worked just as well. the kids loved the chicken, but not so much the topping. this was great as leftovers, too. i ate it for lunch the following two days. 1 can. (12.5oz) diced tomatoes, undrained 1 pkg. stove top stuffing mix for chicken (i use aldi brand) 1/2 cup water 2 cloves garlic, minced 1.5 pounds skinless...

life with izzie b

so i'm out of town right now and this time with my friend izzie b (names have been changed to protect the people we know). we are actually at a conference that is rocking my world, but we are two crazy girls alone in a big city. anyways.....she is a weird person. she likes car rides and she likes to watch the sunrise while riding in the car so we started our trip at 5:30 AM!!! 5:30 AM friends...ugh. but we had a non-eventful trip and honestly it wasn't so bad. i'm weird so i had packed us ham and cheese sandwichs. we stopped several times to get out and walk. we stopped for gas somewhere a bit redneck and they sold mostly fireworks. lots and lots of fireworks. that place also had some kind of super duper blue light hand dryer. it was honestly a bit freaky. then we checked in and found we had a smoking room. it was quite smoky and so we asked for a change. no luck, but the nice lady offered to bring up an odor remover machine while we were at the conference. um....
