10 years

ten years ago today i made a phone call that changed my life. i remember going to the coffee shop i worked at that friday evening bored out of my mind in hopes of talking my few friends at the time into hanging out with me. unfortunately they had other plans. the one friend was giving me a list of people to call and of course i had excuses for all of it, or they had legitimate plans. now, don't have pity on me here. i did have a small group of friends in town at this time. it just happended to be spring break and most were gone. even my family was gone. but there was one new friend that i couldn't find a reason to not call - except that girls do not call boys!!!!! but that reason didn't win out and i called up this recent friend. it was about 5:15 on a friday evening...here is how the conversation went:

recent friend (rf): hello

me: hi...this is.....

rf: how are you?

me: fine...do you have plans tonight?

rf: yeah...i was getting together with the guys (brief pause) why? did you want to do something?

me: well, i was just curious

rf: i could pick you up in about 30 minutes.

me: um...okay...sure!! sounds great!

rf: see ya then!

i later found out that when rf called his friends he used this line, "sorry, guys, someone better came along!!!"

doesn't that just make your heart melt? after 10 years it still makes mine melt!!

6 weeks later rf became my fiance, 5 months after that my hubby, and 10 years later my best friend, my lover, the father of my children, and the most incredible man i've ever known!!!!

the "calling"

okay - so it's been awhile since i've ranted...and it's time! it is beautiful outside and i'm sitting inside my makeshift office at the church. i am lucky enough to have a door that opens to the outside so it is wide open and i'm loving that. but as i'm working here today i feel the need to rant so enjoy.... being in my position i often have to ask people to help out. you know, volunteer to teach or work in the nursery or teach or hang out with the kids, you know - volunteer! i love all the responses i get. i am particularly fond of the "i don't like kids one" - it doesn't go over real well with me when they have 3 of their own. hmm??? but the one that really gets my goat is the "i don't feel called to that." argh...really!?!?!!?!? well, i didn't feel called to wipe my kids bottoms either, but it is a good thing i did it anyways. surprisingly, everyone feels called to the waterpark though! now, let me back up a ...
