memories

so for the one person who reads this from cedarville - enjoy. for the rest of you....just suffer through:)

we would sit in chapel everyday at 10:00. i remember hearing all the time that when we graduate we will stop at 10:00 and remember chapel. hmm...well, i do, from time to time. i often hear the song Christ is All We Need. while i'm sure it is a great song...let's just say it isn't my favorite. now the rare Mondays when Dr. Dixon would sing I Woke Up This Morning...oh yeah, i liked that one. i also remember singing the same hymns each week depending on who led worship and loving chapel on fridays with the student government. we started singing Shout to the Lord and i remember one of the girls raising her hands...that was a bit of a new thing for us students!

there are several sermons i remember vividly. sitting in a blackout listening to tony evans preach. one kid was smart enought to record it on his hand held. i remember alistair begg because i loved his accent. we also had this missionary guy that smuggled bibles and he spoke really fast and had a short mustache. i liked him too...

but just this week - at about 10:00 i was immedietly taken back to chapel with dr. dixon. he would give this great speech every spring. we loved it. sometimes we would place bets on which day he'd give it. it was always the same and frankly, i'm not sure why it was so huge.

it was the dandelion speech! and this week while i lamented over the dandelions in my yard i immedietly thought of him. he would always lecture about the sidewalks. we had plenty of them and they connected to everywhere and that is where we were expected to walk. the grass was well taken care of and for our enjoyment, but boy, he really wanted us to use the sidewalks. UNLESSS!!!! there was a dandelion. and dr. dixon did not like those. so we were given permission each spring to walk in the grass to pluck the unsightley dandelion and put the grass out of it's misery. weird huh? weird that all 1200 of us students would live to hear that sermon. there weren't many chapel cuts that day. in fact one year someone made him a dandelion cake and presented to him in chapel.

so as i looked at my dandelion yard i rejoiced over the fact that dr. dixon would approve of me sending my kids to pick them.

hubby must despise them just as much because he doesn't just pick them, he digs them out of the ground!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I was just telling someone this morning at church how Allistar Begg used to speak at our chapel and I only remember is accent and "A doo run run, a doo run run" I am sure there was a deeper message he would have wished I would have remembered! AND I just taught the kids "I Woke Up This Morning" a couple of months ago

Ah yes the dandelion speech I had almost forgotten that one! Hard to believe it has been over 10 years since we were there.

me, on politics

i despise politics. i never liked it, but i married a man fascinated with it. a man who wanted to be part of it all...and was, briefly. boy were our eyes opened... anyways...it seems like this election has several hot button topics. one of which is universal healthcare. my cousin started a blog called politics for mom and there have been several heated debates going on. i was reading several comments on healthcare. and frankly i was bothered! now, i don't know that a strict universal healthcare is the answer, but i do know that we have now doesn't work for the average person. here is our story.... hubby worked in a small business - 3 employees at the most that i can remember. we paid 1/2 our insurance..until it came to the point where our half each month was twice what we would pay if we were on our own. but for the owner it saved him money. so he agreed to cover ours in full. we were very grateful. i also know at times, that because of the healthcare cost, it was a struggle f...

the "calling"

okay - so it's been awhile since i've ranted...and it's time! it is beautiful outside and i'm sitting inside my makeshift office at the church. i am lucky enough to have a door that opens to the outside so it is wide open and i'm loving that. but as i'm working here today i feel the need to rant so enjoy.... being in my position i often have to ask people to help out. you know, volunteer to teach or work in the nursery or teach or hang out with the kids, you know - volunteer! i love all the responses i get. i am particularly fond of the "i don't like kids one" - it doesn't go over real well with me when they have 3 of their own. hmm??? but the one that really gets my goat is the "i don't feel called to that." argh...really!?!?!!?!? well, i didn't feel called to wipe my kids bottoms either, but it is a good thing i did it anyways. surprisingly, everyone feels called to the waterpark though! now, let me back up a ...
