the difference between...

...mapboy and princess!!! the kids wanted to go to the library this morning. i let them know we would not go until their chores were completed. all was going well!! they were buzzing right through the chore list. then they both got to the final chore: 15 minutes of tieing shoes!!!

this is a chore because neither of my kids have mastered this skill! princess is still 4 but we are working on it now. mapboy just turned 7 and should have been doing this for a few years, but no, he cannot!

this is how the 15 minutes went:

princess: mom, i made the first cross all by myself!
mom, i made a bunny ear!
mom, my thumb is stuck!

mapboy: i don't know how to make a cross (stomps foot)

princess: oh...there is my thumb! now, i chase my bunny right?
around and around and around i go!!!

mom to mapboy: sweetie, just take this end and loop it through.

mapboy: there is no loop, i can't hold the end, i'm not going to do this!

princess: look!! i did it!!
(she had made a great attempt and i was proud of her)
can i try it again????

mapboy: more stomping of the foot, more shouts of frustration, i will never be able to do this. NEVER, I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ding ding ding...

princess: wait, i want to finish again!

mapboy: i'm going to my room

ME: this perfectionistic thing is absurd!!!!!! why won't he even just try?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

oh the joys of motherhood!!!

Cracked me up! I am sure you probably don't find it funny, but in the scheme of things it is, don't you think??

the "calling"

okay - so it's been awhile since i've ranted...and it's time! it is beautiful outside and i'm sitting inside my makeshift office at the church. i am lucky enough to have a door that opens to the outside so it is wide open and i'm loving that. but as i'm working here today i feel the need to rant so enjoy.... being in my position i often have to ask people to help out. you know, volunteer to teach or work in the nursery or teach or hang out with the kids, you know - volunteer! i love all the responses i get. i am particularly fond of the "i don't like kids one" - it doesn't go over real well with me when they have 3 of their own. hmm??? but the one that really gets my goat is the "i don't feel called to that." argh...really!?!?!!?!? well, i didn't feel called to wipe my kids bottoms either, but it is a good thing i did it anyways. surprisingly, everyone feels called to the waterpark though! now, let me back up a ...
