some of my ramblings....

a month ago i got a haircut. it was a BIG change for me. for the most part, i've had the same basic look for about 8 years. from time to time, i'd do a variation or cut it shorter or grow it longer, but this time my sister in law sent me some ideas. she sent me oprahs makeovers and i have to confess at first i was a little overwhelmed. but she has incredible taste and always looks great. she also always tries to talk me into something new....so this time i took the plunge.

funny thing...hardly anyone noticed!!! there were a few people that noticed, but not alot. i got that angled look. you know, the one that is shorter in back than on the sides/front. the front is the same length, but the back is definitely shorter...

okay..so where am i going with this? i'm sure none of you out there really care about what my hair looks like. some of you don't even know what i look like!! but...

on thursday the kids and i headed to sis-in-laws for the day. they could play with their cousins, we could chat, and she was going to highlight my hair. being a blond and getting older it turns a little more dirty blond/brown in the winter months and i can't stand it!!!! so after lunch we started working on my hair. while it was changing color under the beautiful cap they send along, we had a great time on her daughters' christian dance pads!! i'm telling you it is much harder than it looks but oh so fun and a great workout!!!! we were really having a great time. i was glad that my brother in law didn't walk in and i'm sure hubby would have given me a rather odd look.

after my hair changed back to blond she straightened it for me. that is something i've never gotten the hang of. but i loved it!! then she said, "what if i pull these bangs over to this side..." and voila!! i looked so different and stylin!!! i really liked it!! i believe my comment was this "i don't look too bad for being almost 33!"

after a few minutes she asked me something about make-up. well....let's see, i think it has been about 12 years since i've touched the stuff!! i was all about it until i worked at summer camp and couldn't have it. i guess i could have it, but why would i want to wake up 1/2 hour early only to jump in the lake an hour later and wash it off. i mean these little girls are not impressed by it. i digress...

long story short, she wisked me off to her bathroom and in about 2 minutes or less had be looking even more different! i loved it even more!!!! i'm actually thinking that with my birthday coming up i may have to go make-up shopping with her. i'm amazed at how little she put on but how much it made me look more alive!!!!

so driving home i wondered what hubby would say. would he notice at all??? after the first few minutes i asked if he noticed anything different. before he could answer mapboy shouted out that i had make-up on! he just smiled and said i thought you looked a little different. of course he new i was getting my hair done. when i asked what he thought he gave me his typical non-committal answer. you look nice but you look nice with out it too. that is his way of not getting in trouble. if he says he likes it then he runs the risk of me thinking he doesn't like me with out it. you know....as much as i want a direct answer i have to give him credit for thinking it all through and knowing me so well!!

okay...back to the top....this was all on thursday...today, at church i had about 10 people come up and comment on my hair!!! weird huh?? they asked if i got it cut. they asked it i got it colored, but all were very complentary. so dear sis-in-law....i'm a believer in your great sense of beauty style!! and we may have to take a shopping trip...although we both might need some money first!!!!! who knows...maybe i'll get some work done on those eyebrows next!?!!?!!?

2021 word: rhythm

as i began to ponder all that i had learned about myself in 2020 i found amazing places of adaptability, leadership, and change.  those are great strengths and proved to be valuable in 2020, however those same things left me feeling a bit out of sorts, unanchored.  i know my life needs to find some grounding again.  i told my husband yesterday and a friend today that i am not looking forward to 2021.  no big plans. no vacations to look forward to.  several things are already cancelled and leaving some voids at work.  but really...there is nothing like being an incredible social person and realizing 2021 has a looming sense of loneliness when my girl takes on college. with this in mind, i knew i needed to find some ways to reclaim myself; putting space into my life filled with things that bring joy and peace.  there are things i need to continue changing physically, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally, yet discipline is not in my skill set.  it freaks me out.  constrains me lead

me, on politics

i despise politics. i never liked it, but i married a man fascinated with it. a man who wanted to be part of it all...and was, briefly. boy were our eyes opened... anyways...it seems like this election has several hot button topics. one of which is universal healthcare. my cousin started a blog called politics for mom and there have been several heated debates going on. i was reading several comments on healthcare. and frankly i was bothered! now, i don't know that a strict universal healthcare is the answer, but i do know that we have now doesn't work for the average person. here is our story.... hubby worked in a small business - 3 employees at the most that i can remember. we paid 1/2 our insurance..until it came to the point where our half each month was twice what we would pay if we were on our own. but for the owner it saved him money. so he agreed to cover ours in full. we were very grateful. i also know at times, that because of the healthcare cost, it was a struggle f

the word...

new year.  new decade. new word.  i started the habit of choosing a word almost exactly a decade ago.  each year the word has evolved and helped shape the year. well, this year is quite likely the exception.  or at least i thought it was.  my usual yearly reflection takes me on a journey through the year where the word has evolved into something entirely different than the road i envisioned. and usually i am in awe of how God used that word. this year was strange.  looking back on the goals i set, i see failure, not awe.  now before you go and tell me i am not a failure, i did fail at the goals i set.  truly.  goal 1:  grow and develop in a healthy way.  nope.  ending the year with extra instead of less.  attempted, yet didn't follow through on many health plans.  goal 2:  grow spiritually through meditation, scripture reading, and community.  nope.  ending the year with little reading and loss of church community that grieves me deeply. late fall i started pondering thes
