thanksgiving

gee, when my aunt said she still reads my blog i felt a bit of guilt.  july was my last post!  so, i thought i'd get back into this whole blogging thing.  i could catch ya up tonight but instead i'll just do some thanksgiving wrap up!

each year we watch charlie brown thanksgiving and prepare the feast charlie and snoopy fixed.  this was our night before thanksgiving fun!  in case you have never seen it, we eat popcorn, jello, jelly beans, toast and pretzels.  it is a tradition i hope we still have when our kids are bringing home their future spouses! (by the way - we are in our state of refinishing floors so the room is a bit crowded!)

on thanksgiving day we always head to my in-laws.  this year was no different, except for the trip the kids and i took to my folks to catch up with some cousins and my dear aunts and uncles!


at the garner clan my sweet mother in law started this tradition the first year i joined the family.  we pass around this ear of indian corn, pull off a kernal, say something we are thankful for and pass the jar on.  this year sweet girl was thankful for her teacher, tweener was thankful for zippers and his quality education, my hubby threw out a random shout of thankfulness for nd being #1 and iu being #1, i was thankful for being able to feed 200 kids with blessings in a backpack. 

we had a great time laughing together, eating lots, and being with our families.  i think each year this holiday gets more and more meaningful.  we truly are blessed!

the "calling"

okay - so it's been awhile since i've ranted...and it's time! it is beautiful outside and i'm sitting inside my makeshift office at the church. i am lucky enough to have a door that opens to the outside so it is wide open and i'm loving that. but as i'm working here today i feel the need to rant so enjoy.... being in my position i often have to ask people to help out. you know, volunteer to teach or work in the nursery or teach or hang out with the kids, you know - volunteer! i love all the responses i get. i am particularly fond of the "i don't like kids one" - it doesn't go over real well with me when they have 3 of their own. hmm??? but the one that really gets my goat is the "i don't feel called to that." argh...really!?!?!!?!? well, i didn't feel called to wipe my kids bottoms either, but it is a good thing i did it anyways. surprisingly, everyone feels called to the waterpark though! now, let me back up a ...
