the great miracle

okay...so we picked up mapboy from school this morning...while waiting in the parking lot, princess starts screaming she has to go potty right now. I calmly explained that we don't have keys to get into the school, that brother will be out in a minute, and that we are only 2 minutes from home. i told her she would just have to wait all of 3 minutes. she didn't like it one bit and proceeded to tell me non-stop how bad she had to go potty. now i was getting totally frustrated - i had most definitely explained the circumstances. couldn't she just be quiet long enough for me to finish my book that i was reading? ahh...i know, if i give her a lifesaver that will change her focus. dilema solved! i never heard another word.

here comes mapboy....he is bounding at the door talking with his best bud. we can hardly get the boys back to the cars. his best bud happens to be the son of my best friend (a great thing!). the boys crawl into their cars to share their birthday loot with their sisters. my friend and i start chatting about church, vacations, preschool being over, when can we get away again without our kids, what we are fixing for lunch and then dinner...you know the routine. i keep hearing screams from my car from mapboy. when i finally get in i turn around to kindly remind him that when mommy is talking we don't interupt. "BUT MOM, I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM!!" wait, a few minutes ago it was princess screaming that. so i wait to hear her join in. nope, she doesn't have to go anymore. she smiles and says the lifesaver took her potty away. mapboy doesn't think that will work so i save my lifesaver and book it home. guess what? he spent the next 15 minutes staring at our garden then straight to his room to study the atlas. you know what - he still hasn't gone to the bathroom! it must be a miracle!

the great conclusion: princess didn't want me reading my book and mapboy didn't want me talking to my friend.

but, since, i still love to read and chat with my friend, i think i'll dig out our old potty chair and offer that as an alternative to them next time!!!

me, on politics

i despise politics. i never liked it, but i married a man fascinated with it. a man who wanted to be part of it all...and was, briefly. boy were our eyes opened... anyways...it seems like this election has several hot button topics. one of which is universal healthcare. my cousin started a blog called politics for mom and there have been several heated debates going on. i was reading several comments on healthcare. and frankly i was bothered! now, i don't know that a strict universal healthcare is the answer, but i do know that we have now doesn't work for the average person. here is our story.... hubby worked in a small business - 3 employees at the most that i can remember. we paid 1/2 our insurance..until it came to the point where our half each month was twice what we would pay if we were on our own. but for the owner it saved him money. so he agreed to cover ours in full. we were very grateful. i also know at times, that because of the healthcare cost, it was a struggle f...

the "calling"

okay - so it's been awhile since i've ranted...and it's time! it is beautiful outside and i'm sitting inside my makeshift office at the church. i am lucky enough to have a door that opens to the outside so it is wide open and i'm loving that. but as i'm working here today i feel the need to rant so enjoy.... being in my position i often have to ask people to help out. you know, volunteer to teach or work in the nursery or teach or hang out with the kids, you know - volunteer! i love all the responses i get. i am particularly fond of the "i don't like kids one" - it doesn't go over real well with me when they have 3 of their own. hmm??? but the one that really gets my goat is the "i don't feel called to that." argh...really!?!?!!?!? well, i didn't feel called to wipe my kids bottoms either, but it is a good thing i did it anyways. surprisingly, everyone feels called to the waterpark though! now, let me back up a ...
