princess turns 6!!!!!

we had quite the hoedown yesterday as princess celebrated her 6th birthday! she is really into cowgirls and wild west right now. yes, she is still into princesses, but she really wanted a white pony and cowgirl boots! our trip out west has definitely made an impact on her.

she also wanted to go bowling. she has only been asking us for about 9 months now to go. so we invited 2 of her friends and headed to our local bowling alley. everyone dressed in their best cowgirl/boy attire. mapboy picked out a western style shirt (it had dinosaurs on it) and wore his vest, boots, and hat. princess wore her boot scootin shirt, hat, and borrowed brothers other boots. they were way cute!

after bowling we headed back to the house to meet the grandparent and have cake and ice cream. it was a great day.

i was thinking about her tiny beginnings. all 4 lbs and 15 oz. of her. she was 5 weeks early. they told me she might not cry because of her lungs not being ready, but that the ultrasound looked good. well, she came out screaming and didn't stop for about 10 months. seriously!! it was a long first year.

but she is such a joy now. she is smart and cute and shy and girly and funny. in an effort to complete her reading program she read through her bible twice this summer. she prays for anything and everything. she loves friends. she loves school and reading. she loves strawberry milk.

but i see in her a little girl that loves Jesus. she sings praise songs with all her might. she learns all the bible verses and virtues the first week. i pray for her to be a mighty woman of God. one that knows the passions God has given her and lives those fully for Him. a woman that loves others - everyone. i pray for her to grow strong in her faith and for her to know how deeply she is loved, by her parents and her Creator!

she is a precious gift.......

Happy Birthday Princess! Six is such a fun age - so curious and passionate and exuberant, even for introverts. Love the child-like wonder about things like cowboys, the Wild West and even bowling. Too cute!

me, on politics

i despise politics. i never liked it, but i married a man fascinated with it. a man who wanted to be part of it all...and was, briefly. boy were our eyes opened... anyways...it seems like this election has several hot button topics. one of which is universal healthcare. my cousin started a blog called politics for mom and there have been several heated debates going on. i was reading several comments on healthcare. and frankly i was bothered! now, i don't know that a strict universal healthcare is the answer, but i do know that we have now doesn't work for the average person. here is our story.... hubby worked in a small business - 3 employees at the most that i can remember. we paid 1/2 our insurance..until it came to the point where our half each month was twice what we would pay if we were on our own. but for the owner it saved him money. so he agreed to cover ours in full. we were very grateful. i also know at times, that because of the healthcare cost, it was a struggle f...

the word...

new year.  new decade. new word.  i started the habit of choosing a word almost exactly a decade ago.  each year the word has evolved and helped shape the year. well, this year is quite likely the exception.  or at least i thought it was.  my usual yearly reflection takes me on a journey through the year where the word has evolved into something entirely different than the road i envisioned. and usually i am in awe of how God used that word. this year was strange.  looking back on the goals i set, i see failure, not awe.  now before you go and tell me i am not a failure, i did fail at the goals i set.  truly.  goal 1:  grow and develop in a healthy way.  nope.  ending the year with extra instead of less.  attempted, yet didn't follow through on many health plans.  goal 2:  grow spiritually through meditation, scripture reading, and community.  nope.  ending the year with little reading and loss ...

from the kitchen...

chicken bruschetta bake if you know me, you know my great distaste of tomatoes. i usually pick the tomato chunks out of my sgetti sauce. yes i just called it sgetti!! i eat all the chunks of my salsa, except the tomatoes. but over the past few years i've gotten a bit brave and will eat small pieces of tomatoes in fresh salsa and in this dish as well. i hadn't fixed this in probably over a year. but a few weeks ago i pulled out my recipe file to find some old favorites. i found this and realized i had everything in the pantry. that's a deal!!!!! i did have to switch out the diced tomatoes because my can was crushed instead. i prefer the diced but this worked just as well. the kids loved the chicken, but not so much the topping. this was great as leftovers, too. i ate it for lunch the following two days. 1 can. (12.5oz) diced tomatoes, undrained 1 pkg. stove top stuffing mix for chicken (i use aldi brand) 1/2 cup water 2 cloves garlic, minced 1.5 pounds skinless...
